It is always recommended to keep a backup copy of your websites in case their configuration or content becomes damaged or lost.
Amber IT is providing a 7 Day backup to all our shared hosting client data, That includes website files, MySQL databases, e-mails, This backup is encrypted therefore it takes a longer time to backup your data, but safety and security come first. After our system has finished performing a backup of your host it automatically generates a 48 character long key for the encrypted backup, the key is used for our system to restore the backup, therefore the backup cannot be restored on a different system. All encrypted backups are stored in 4 different locations on different backup servers, which also are encrypted, and using modern technology backup solutions, the connection between servers is also encrypted and allowed access is only from specific IP addresses and specific SSH keys, that also have 25 digit long password protection. All backup server connections are monitored with a specific monitoring system from 4 locations, that trigger an alarm on a 3-party attempt to access it and each time admin needs to access it.
Based on the functionality that we can provide, we also offer our clients to create an additional backup, this is needed if you want to restore files on your own, or you are planning some changes in your website and in case of semething goes wrong you can quickly restore the previous version.
To access the backup function, do the following:
If you are a hosting customer, go to Websites & Domains > Backup Manager > Back Up.
If you are a server administrator and are using the power user view, go to Backup Manager > Back Up.
Click on Back Up. to access Back Up. options:
We recommend to only mark Exclude log files and leave all as is. At 1 backup it will create a full, but from the full, it will continue by creating incremental backing up only files, that have been changed. Once done click Ok.
Now if we want to restore something from this backup, then we need to click on the backup date in our case based on the image above "Aug 31, 2020 02:09 PM" once you have selected the backup you can download the files onto your PC by clicking the Download button on the menu now we can choose Type of object to restore we can select what to restore. There are options like Mail Account, SSL/TLS certificates, Sites, DNS zone, Files of domain. Based on the option that you will choose you will get additional options, for example, if you choose to restore Mail account, It will give you additional options to specify which account you would like to restore.
In our example, we will be restoring an E-mail account. Type of object to restore we need to select the Mail account then under the Available: we will see all our e-mail accounts. Mark the one or several that you would want to restore and click on select X object in the X place will be digit of selected items.
Once we have done the above step, we can click on Restore but if you want to get a notification when the restore is completed, you can mark "When the restoration is completed, send a notification to" and enter your e-mail.
Now in the backup manager select Schedule
"Use incremental backup " we would recommend leaving on otherwise your assigned space will be full where fast.
Under the "Run this backup task " you can select when you want this task to perform. There are a few options under "Perform full backup " Weekly, Monthly, Yearly the best option that we recommend is Weekly. Depending on your choice under "Keep backup files for *" you would need to specify for how long to keep the backup. Since we have selected Weekly, then I will specify 3 Weeks so that the backup is kept.
Under backup settings, we leave all marked as is, and additionally, we check the checkbox under Exclude log files if you want to receive e-mail notifications when the backup failed, you can check the " If errors occur during the execution of this backup task, send a notification email to" and enter your e-mail once all is filled we can press OK
If you want to change some settings in the future, you just need to redo this step. Also, We provide an option to save your backups on the FTP server.
